This August, people around the world watched the Olympics unfold in Beijing. We know that we don’t exactly have to tell you that. But behind the Gold, Silver, and Bronze—and often forgotten, is the true spirit the founders of the modern Olympics actually had in mind.
But before we lose you, we promise that this has something to do with efficient waste management. The same spirit of unity behind the Olympics is the same spirit that enables businesses across the country to push towards something better—a better environment, a better system of waste management, and a better life overall.
Take for instance the symbol of the Olympics, the five rings. We all know what they look like, and it’s not hard to guess that they stand for unity. What’s even more important is the Olympic creed. It says “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.” At EWS, we’ve found that this applies to much more than athletic competition.
Just like athletes strive to succeed over the rest, so do businesses. For many athletes, the lure of gold often makes them forget the unity of the competition. In the same way, the lure of profit often causes businesses to forget about their part in the community.
