There’s always a need for recycling…

The United States Green Building Commission is a recently founded nonprofit community of businesses and local affiliates who are working to make green buildings the norm.  From homes to schools, and everything in between, the USGBC wants to make eco friendly buildings available to everyone in the country.  For example, one manifestation of this new initiative can be seen at Ohio University.  The University recently pledged to undergo all new construction and renovations projects with green building standards constantly in mind.

But what does this mean for businesses?

At Home Business OpportunitiesWith more people, businesses, and organizations committing themselves to “greening” the country, the amount of recycled materials required to make good on our Green promises will need to increase.  Say you’re a manufacturer who primarily works with metal.  Every year you dispose of tons upon tons of scrap. Or maybe you primarily work in wood.  Wood is yet another material that’s integral in a multitude of projects, and every bit you can recycle makes a difference.  When it comes down to it, just about every industry has something to contribute to greening, and the attitude that one business can’t make a difference is one that is quickly fading away.
They have to get the materials somewhere. You Can Recycle WHAT!?

Normally, when we think about recycling, we tend to only think about the basics.  Images of newspapers, magazines, plastic bottles, and soda cans all neatly arranged in blue bins are brought into our heads—which is good.  But it’s only a start.  Much more can be recycled than the standard fare of bottles, cans, and paper.

However, some businesses might be left saying to themselves, “I have absolutely nothing to recycle.” And that’s where they’re wrong!  Every year (sometimes even more frequently) there are earth shattering breakthroughs in the recycling industry.  What most businesses don’t realize is that they have much more to recycle than they think.

For example, 2 out of every 3 pounds of steel made in the United States is comprised entirely of recycled steel scrap.  Additionally, About 60% of the metals produced in the country are all from recycled materials.  You can be sure that all of that metal didn’t come entirely from old soda cans.

If businesses have anything that they simply look at as worthless trash, it might actually be much more valuable than they think.  Businesses can not only find out if they can recycle their “worthless trash”, but they can find the best way to do so, and  they can also find out if they can profit from recycling. All the while they’re helping the environment (So everyone wins!).

It’s become common knowledge that the economy is driving prices down everywhere. Let’s be honest, we can’t ignore that the economy is making things hard in just about every industry. Some are even saying that the prices are becoming harder and harder to work with when it comes to recycling. However, while every part of the country is different and the markets for different materials are constantly shifting, Environmental Waste Solutions can’t help but remain confident. Simply given the performance of our affiliates over the past couple of years, it’s become apparent that there is always a way to make savings. The opportunities are there, and creative affiliates always find them. No matter what, EWS affiliates will always be able to save money and make it.

History says recycling is the way to go

Recycling comes across today as a relatively new phenomenon. All over the country it’s become the thing to do. Using the same bag to carry groceries, old bottles to carry new water, and so much more has fallen under the general definition of what it is to recycle, and the motivation to do it is growing faster than anyone could ever imagine. But there’s one thing to remember: time doesn’t lie. Recycling is not in any way a new concept. Sure, the billion dollar facilities are definitely new—but they’re simply expanding on a general model passed down throughout history, since the very beginnings of civilization.

For example, archaeologists in a number of underwater sites across the world have found artifacts ranging in age from the fourth century BC to the third century AD, and they found them all in the same place. Their discovery simply goes to show that ancient civilizations—especially some of the most successful ones—saw the value in reusing materials for recycling. Some historians and archeologists have even theorized that civilizations like the Romans actually had centers for recycling.

Another instance where recycling became huge was during World War I and World War II. Both America and Europe were faced with astronomical shortages of materials due to the war effort. While today the fight is against pollution and global warming, the fact that recycling can have an impact has never changed.

There was never a better time to save

In order to survive, they’re being forced to cut back, cut production, and cut jobs. According to the U.S. Department of labor the unemployment rate In June 2008 was 5.5, in August it was 6.1, and in November, it was 6.7. It doesn’t take much calculation to realize that the unemployment rate is steadily rising.

However, unemployment is not rising because businesses are greedy.
