There’s always a need for recycling…

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The United States Green Building Commission is a recently founded nonprofit community of businesses and local affiliates who are working to make green buildings the norm.  From homes to schools, and everything in between, the USGBC wants to make eco friendly buildings available to everyone in the country.  For example, one manifestation of this new initiative can be seen at Ohio University.  The University recently pledged to undergo all new construction and renovations projects with green building standards constantly in mind.

But what does this mean for businesses?

At Home Business OpportunitiesWith more people, businesses, and organizations committing themselves to “greening” the country, the amount of recycled materials required to make good on our Green promises will need to increase.  Say you’re a manufacturer who primarily works with metal.  Every year you dispose of tons upon tons of scrap. Instead you can recycle it and contribute to building projects that can only make a positive impact.
Or maybe you primarily work in wood.  Wood is yet another material that’s integral in a multitude of projects, and every bit you can recycle makes a difference.  When it comes down to it, just about every industry has something to contribute to greening, and the attitude that one business can’t make a difference is one that is quickly fading away.
They have to get the materials somewhere. So why not lend a hand?  It’s helpful for the environment and it saves you money you would normally spend hauling the materials away.  As greening quickly expands to be integrated in even more aspects of our lives, it ultimately proves that, with Recycling, everybody wins. Is this good news for people looking to start a green home business? We think so.

You Can Recycle WHAT!?

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Normally, when we think about recycling, we tend to only think about the basics.  Images of newspapers, magazines, plastic bottles, and soda cans all neatly arranged in blue bins are brought into our heads—which is good.  But it’s only a start.  Much more can be recycled than the standard fare of bottles, cans, and paper.

However, some businesses might be left saying to themselves, “I have absolutely nothing to recycle.” And that’s where they’re wrong!  Every year (sometimes even more frequently) there are earth shattering breakthroughs in the recycling industry.  What most businesses don’t realize is that they have much more to recycle than they think.

At Home Business OpportunitiesBeyond recycled newspapers, paper plates, and aluminum cans, there are plenty of materials you wouldn’t normally think to recycle.  There’s paint, leftover manufacturing materials, cast iron, brass, zinc, electronics, and more.  With recycling being a 65 Billion Dollar Industry in the U.S. alone in 2006, it’s rapidly becoming clear that there’s much more to it than just newspapers, bottles, and cans.

For example, 2 out of every 3 pounds of steel made in the United States is comprised entirely of recycled steel scrap.  Additionally, About 60% of the metals produced in the country are all from recycled materials.  You can be sure that all of that metal didn’t come entirely from old soda cans.

If businesses have anything that they simply look at as worthless trash, it might actually be much more valuable than they think.  Businesses can not only find out if they can recycle their “worthless trash”, but they can find the best way to do so, and  they can also find out if they can profit from recycling. All the while they’re helping the environment (So everyone wins!).

It's like planting a tree

Monday, June 8th, 2009

We don’t expect every business to go and plant trees in their communities—there’s not always time for that, and let’s be serious, when it comes to this economy hardly anybody has time for that kind of thing. But we can think of something that’s just as good.
EWS affiliates can help businesses do their part and make more of an impact on the environment by making less of an impact on the environment. But hundreds of affiliates have found that all it takes to find handfuls of clients is the simple fact that businesses can make some money while they’re at it (or while their EWS affiliates are at it). They don’t have to do anything! Instead of throwing things away to be useless forever or using too much fuel and energy to haul everything away, EWS affiliates open doors for businesses to put it all to use.

At Home Business Opportunities
Instead of being an unnecessary drain on the environment, businesses can minimize their effect on the environment around them and maximize their savings. So it’s like planting a tree, it looks good and it serves some greater purpose by helping to pump clean air into the atmosphere. In our case, EWS affiliates reduce the negative effects of businesses on the environment significantly, so it’s just as good, just as far reaching, and a whole lot easier.

Lessons in waste

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

“Eat your peas; there are hungry children on the other side of the world!” Many of us have heard that old cliché, whether it was regarding peas or broccoli. Or maybe instead you heard, “If you don’t clean your plate, you won’t get dessert”? Either way, you’re probably wondering what this has to do with waste consulting and recycling, and to be honest it’s actually more relevant than you may think!
All of those lessons we learned at the dinner table taught us more than we may have thought, and at their very heart, many times they were about waste. From an early age, children are taught not to waste all the little things we use every day, but somewhere along the way, the message gets distorted.

At Home Business Opportunities
It’s not as easy as eating a few more bites or choking down that last Brussels sprout. Now, for businesses it’s about finding a recycling location for 2 tons of plastic, 50 wood pallets, and another 2 tons of scrap aluminum. Ultimately, the math has gotten harder, but the equation is more or less the same. Waste is bad. So if you’re efficient as possible you get your dessert—or a little extra money.
When it comes to taking that lest step in order to reduce waste and reap the benefits, EWS can help in even the hardest situations—Just don’t ask your EWS affiliates to finish your Brussels sprouts.

It’s too simple to pass up

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Too often we sacrifice profit for convenience. Let’s be honest, when you have a lot on your mind it’s not exactly easy to squeeze every cent out of everything you use. Sure, instead of throwing things out you could have a yard sale every month, or maybe you could go online every few weeks and auction everything off that you would normally throw away—but that takes time. In fact, it takes a lot of it, and time is usually something that we just don’t have a lot of. On so many occasions what we all need is a helping hand, and EWS can be just that for businesses.

At Home Business Opportunities
That’s simply one of the many upsides to EWS. EWS affiliates have no problem convincing businesses to use their services because clients can continue to dedicate their time to their business while EWS affiliates use their own time to squeeze every cent out of their waste. With all of the opportunities already available for better recycling, and more and more being created, EWS affiliates find the best outlets for businesses to transform their waste into its exact opposite, gain.

As a helping hand for clients, EWS couldn’t be any more convenient. For the client, the service is virtually free, simply costing them a portion of what they save while putting money they never knew they had back in their pockets where it can actually be used. Isn’t that better than trucking it all away to the landfill and throwing it away forever?

Conservation couldn’t be easier!

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Businesses across the country are coming to terms with the fact that resources, in every sense of the word, don’t grow on trees—except maybe paper. For instance, colleges and universities all over have learned that many times, people consume without even thinking about it. Consider the article you printed this morning, the emails you printed off and promised to read over lunch, or the bank statements that you end up reading online and never opening when the hardcopy arrives in the mail. Examples like these just show that we don’t even think twice about consuming when we might not even need to.

For instance, colleges and universities across the country have introduced print management systems to, hopefully, reign in on the amount of ink and paper that are used. On a number of levels, initiatives like this both save money and the environment. By conserving paper, fewer acres of our valuable forests need to be cut down and less energy must be used to process the raw materials to produce the actual paper. As for ink, conservation also reduces the emissions created and the energy spent in the production and actual use of the ink.

When it comes down to it, the facts are clear. Sure, managing elements of business such as paper and ink consumption are simple and easily implemented measures to help the environment. However, it’s also important to remember that conservation is as valuable as it is green. While the price of a ream of paper may seem cheap, it can surely add up. Every single sheet is money spent, and that means that every wasted sheet is money thrown away forever. While ink cartridges are more expensive, the same relationship exists. You can’t recycle used ink, and every drop wasted is cents thrown into the waste basket.

EWS affiliates operating all over the country are capable of helping businesses realize the potential in waste. While their focus may not be paper and ink, we’ve all experienced and taken part in the waste that takes place in the office. By locating the sources of waste and cutting inefficiency off at the source, EWS can help businesses keep more money while doing their part for the environment.
