The United States Green Building Commission is a recently founded nonprofit community of businesses and local affiliates who are working to make green buildings the norm. From homes to schools, and everything in between, the USGBC wants to make eco friendly buildings available to everyone in the country. For example, one manifestation of this new initiative can be seen at Ohio University. The University recently pledged to undergo all new construction and renovations projects with green building standards constantly in mind.
But what does this mean for businesses?
With more people, businesses, and organizations committing themselves to “greening” the country, the amount of recycled materials required to make good on our Green promises will need to increase. Say you’re a manufacturer who primarily works with metal. Every year you dispose of tons upon tons of scrap. Instead you can recycle it and contribute to building projects that can only make a positive impact.
Or maybe you primarily work in wood. Wood is yet another material that’s integral in a multitude of projects, and every bit you can recycle makes a difference. When it comes down to it, just about every industry has something to contribute to greening, and the attitude that one business can’t make a difference is one that is quickly fading away.
They have to get the materials somewhere. So why not lend a hand? It’s helpful for the environment and it saves you money you would normally spend hauling the materials away. As greening quickly expands to be integrated in even more aspects of our lives, it ultimately proves that, with Recycling, everybody wins.
