Recycling is Easy– No matter Where you are.

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

In a recent story on Guardian.co.uk titled “Ethiopia firm recycling tyres into shoes does big business via internet” we learned that recycling really is possible anywhere,  it can be done with much more than you think it can be, and it can even be creative and lucrative.  An entrepreneur in Ethiopia named Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu has taken the initiative to recycle old truck tires and turn them into fashionable footwear to be sold all over the world.   Since starting her  own home business named soleRebels, Bethlehem’s widespread success can be almost entirely attributed to willpower, know how, and you guessed it— recycling.

What we love about this story is the fact that those are exactly the same traits that make a successful EWS affiliate.  The willpower to succeed, the recycling know how taught by Environmental Waste Solutions, and the opportunity inherent in recycling.  By embracing all of those qualities for the last 15 years, EWS affiliates across the country have been able to find success for themselves by taking full advantage of recycling.

This story of one businesswoman in Ethiopia simply proves that recycling can be a key not only to greener business and greener lives, but greater success for businesses of all kinds, no matter where they are. You don’t have to be doing anything like making shoes from recycled rubber tires or designer dresses from recycled shopping bags.  It can be as easy as taking a closer look at business waste so see the truth– that recycling can help you take advantage.

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

You told yourself that this would be your year, that things would be just a little easier.  Well, why not start with the activity that takes up the most of your time.  The majority of our lives are spent working…so why spend that time in a career that doesn’t give you the satisfaction that you want and need?

Too often, people allow themselves to settle into a career that is only tolerable, and nothing more.  However– that can all change.  Finding a worthwhile, rewarding, and meaningful career isn’t as hard as you think– and it doesn’t have to come at the expense of a comfortable paycheck.

For the past 15 years, Environmental Waste Solutions has created a fantastic business opportunity for affiliates across the country, and one key reason for its success is because it’s centered entirely on trash.  With more and more attention being given to the importance of recycling, businesses across the world are looking to take steps to become green businesses.  However, economic troubles that are only beginning to be overcome have presented businesses with a significant obstacle making it harder to succeed– let alone succeed and go green.

EWS affiliates across the country provide a clear solution to that problem.  Going green doesn’t  have to be an investment– it can actually mean savings instead.  By taking a closer look at business waste streams, Environmental Waste Solutions affiliates can save up to thousands of dollars every month on waste disposal while also recycling and making less of an impact on the environment.

The Fact is…

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Sometimes convincing businesses to recycle is a hard job. Too often the prospect of recycling is one that conjures images of “wasted time” and money spent. However, introducing green business initiatives doesn’t have to cost a thing—in fact, it can be entirely beneficial—for much more than saying “We’ve gone green,” but for the bottom line as well. The facts don’t lie.

Take for instance an aluminum can. Aluminum is one of the most widely used metals in the world. However, because it is so widely recycled it accounts for less than 1% of our waste stream—all because consumers and businesses caught on and realized it really is easy to recycle aluminum.
Sometimes it’s as easy as putting it in a different container when you’re done with it, but the facts remain that not everything that can be recycled is actually being recycled. While recycling aluminum cans has become almost second nature—businesses and households are paying to cart products like drain gutters, car parts, and lawn furniture to the dump. Ultimately, it’s a matter of education. For all involved, knowing what can be recycled and how is the one path to benefiting—environmentally and financially.

Think of it this way, a recycled aluminum can is back on the shelves in the form of a new can in just 60 days. If that doesn’t demonstrate the utility of recycling what does? It perfectly demonstrates that businesses don’t simply benefit the future—but they can seriously benefit in the short term in the form of cheaper and greener usable resources.

While some recycled materials can be utilized by businesses in less than 60 days, think of the alternative—aluminum that goes straight to a landfill will remain an aluminum can for 500 years, forcing the depletion of more fresh resources, leaving businesses (and ultimately consumers) to spend more. Especially when materials such as aluminum can be recycled over and over and over again, why not recycle? All it takes is a little education.

When it comes to business, if recycling programs aren’t in place or if standard waste management is just too easy, think of all the money that can be saved with better and more efficient recycling. The energy saved with recycling can only have a positive impact on both the environment and your bottom line—and resources such as Environmental Waste Solutions affiliates have the knowledge required to pinpoint precisely what can be recycled so everyone can benefit in the end.

The facts make it clear. Why waste when it’s just as easy not to?

How Hard can it be to Go Green?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

We’ve mentioned before the importance of going green, but most people don’t realize how easy it is to go green. It can be the difference between throwing your plastic bottle into a blue trash bin instead of a regular one—or it can be as simple as not using that plastic bottle. Either way, sometimes it almost seems like the answers to going green are hiding in plain sight.

At the same time, while its easy to suggest ways for the individual to go green, sometimes it seems a little more difficult to scale those examples to suit the recycling needs of a business—but it’s really not that hard. business recycling and recycling done by individuals are largely the same thing—just a little different.

*You recycle your plastics in your home

*A Business can recycle in larger quantities

*You can turn in your aluminum cans for cash

*A Business can take advantage of material exchange programs and squeeze every cent out of their business waste

*You repurpose typical “waste” products like plastic bags and containers

*A Business, with the help of someone like an Environmental Waste Solutions Affiliate, can find alternative outlets to use or dispose of business waste.

Just remember, a business isn’t a business without its people. Computer’s can never run everything, and the people that make up our businesses can be a constant reminder that recycling efforts made on the individual level can go further. Recycling in the smallest sense can easily translate to a mass effort to go green and make a difference. In reality, it’s never been easier for businesses to go green—and EWS affiliates can help them take control and do just that.

Reap What You Sow

Reap What You Sow

Okay, Okay. We know what you’re thinking? Is the fall theme going to continue all week? Well the answer to that question, for now, is yes. Fall presents a number of parallels for the business world to smarten up when it comes to recycling. First, we touched on the fact that fall is a season of change, and that businesses can use the many aspects of fall as a reminder that change is good and leads us towards newer, better things. On a deeper level, one of the other themes that go along with fall is the old idea of “the harvest”.

Before being called fall, the season was known as the harvest, when—well—the harvesting took place. So, now you might be wondering what on earth that has to do with recycling, waste management consulting, and green business initiatives. The answer to that question is, “More than you think.” Businesses these days must realize that they truly reap what they sow. Or to use a less confusing cliché—you get out what you put in.

It’s like anything, if you don’t attempt to move towards a positive change, whether it be in the form of saving money, making a profit, or making a difference—you won’t see a positive change. Without putting the work in, there won’t be anything to “harvest” in the end. In this way, if businesses don’t attempt to more mindfully approach the task of green business initiatives —they simply can’t take advantage of the many benefits of Environmental Waste Solutions in the end.

Finding the Money In Recycling

Monday, October 5th, 2009

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, workers at a Sunnyvale recycling plant recently found $3,200 while sorting through items waiting to be recycled at the station. While someone somewhere might not think the story is ironic and just a little funny—at EWS we think it illustrates an excellent point.
When it comes down to it, there really is money in recycling. All it takes is understanding even a few simple ideas surrounding recycling and its special relationship with businesses.

Inefficiency loses you money. The more you save, the more successful you can be.

Do you really think that no one can use your scrap materials?

Going Green has a positive effect on your image and your brand, and customers are leaning towards green businesses.

Having less of an impact on the environment will increase customer confidence.

The green option will ultimately save you money, long term.

Some recycled materials can be recycled for money.

Now, we know that there’s many more than these 6 factors when it comes to recycling. But let’s consider just one of them…. Take for instance, the simple fact that going the green route will save your business money in the long term. Even on the small scale—homeowners save money every year by depositing their aluminum cans and other recyclables instead of simply throwing them away.

As a business—just picture the money you’d be throwing away if you didn’t take advantage of the opportunities presented to you. With large scale amounts of recyclable waste, there’s also the large scale possibility of saving money.
