The Life of a Glass Bottle: A Green Business Opportunity in Motion

A little over a year ago, we wrote a post about the “Life of a Plastic Bottle”. In the same spirit, read on to learn about the two paths in life a glass bottle can take, with your help of course.

Recycling glass bottles could be part of a lucrative new business opportunity

1. Glass is created from raw materials: an energy intensive process using sand, lime, and soda is undertaken to provide glass in many shapes, forms, colors, and consistencies.

2. Glass is filled with product: whatever it may be, the glass is filled with what you need or manufactured to be whatever you need it to be. From a food or drink container to a light bulb and everything in between.

3. Glass fulfills its purpose: is the glass now useless? Soon you will decide.

4. A) Glass is thrown away or B) Glass is recycled.

Herein lies the decision. Like a kids book where you choose the ending. Choose A) and the story ends, choose B) and it continues – on and on. Let’s assume you chose B

5. Recycled Glass is broken down and crushed: this process created what those in the industry call “cullet” – crushed glass that is ready to be re-melted.

6. Glass is re-melted: recycled glass is re-melted and ready to be used in whatever product it needs to be.

7. Glass is reused: recycled glass is incorporated into many of the same products it began its journey as.

8. And the story continues…

Think of all the aluminum cans that we go through as a society. Especially on today, one day of one month where there might just be a large amount of aluminum cans going to waste (beer or otherwise). The possibilities in recycling are nearly endless.

Materials such as aluminum are much more valuable than you may think. Recycling aluminum prevents wasted energy and lost money in a number of ways. From the raw materials to make more cans, straight on down to the gas needed to haul trash that could have been recycled, to the dump.

Earth Day 2010: How Did You Do? Is it Time for a Green Business Opportunity?

So just about a week ago Earth Day yet again came and went. We’re wondering, how did you do? Did you almost throw that plastic bottle away but hold on to it instead with the intention of recycling it? Pat yourself on the back! Did you plant a tree? Clean up some trash? Or otherwise make some sort of positive impact on the environment? Great! Earth Day was a great reminder for people across the world to make more of an impact by making less of an impact – but it can’t stop there.

We think Earth Day is fantastic, but it’s important to remember that there’s much more to accomplish when it comes to helping the environment. Sure – Earth Day is an excellent opportunity to take some time for one day and do something beneficial for all of us. Then again, you can do just that and earn money with it at the same time.

Years ago, we made a point to learn something more about recycling for businesses across the world, and it’s paid off in the end. We learned that businesses don’t always recycle like they really could and we learned that they can often save thousands every month by recycling better. Sure, it’s April. And what does that mean? April fools. Holiday for the mischievous, day of grief for the gullible, and all around interesting day for everyone involved. But I have something interesting for you that you wouldn’t be a fool to take advantage of – recycling. As part of a green business opportunity, recycling is more profitable than you think.

Capitalize on green business opportunities and earn more green

Without a doubt, recycling is probably one of the most underrated business opportunities out there, because nobody sees or hears about it. With the rate that recycling is growing, there are more opportunities to recycle and increasingly more opportunities to profit. When it comes down to it, there’s much more to trash and recycling than crushed plastic bottles, rotting banana peels, and aluminum cans. There are dollars and cents in there somewhere, you just need to know how to take control of waste and turn it to your advantage.

The business opportunity in recycling comes into play in the very fact that businesses – almost all of them – don’t realize how much money they’re wasting when it comes to business waste. Think about all of the business or industrial parks in town. Every one of them has a dumpster that gets filled up, emptied out, and filled up over and over again. So even though it’s April Fool’s day, let me remind you – you are not being fooled. Recycling can be profitable. You just have to know how.

Did you ever think Saint Patrick, Business Waste, and Home Business Opportunities Would Ever Go Hand in Hand?

March 17th: the Day Saint Patrick Drove the Snakes from Ireland. Inspiring! But did you ever think it would have anything to do with recycling, waste, or starting your own home business.

Ahhh Saint Patrick’s Day! The day where rivers turn green, everyone turns Irish, and college campuses across the world turn upside down.

But what does it all mean? March 17th is the feast day of Saint Patrick, who is most frequently remembered to be Ireland’s patron saint (even though he wasn’t Irish!). Today, the holiday is predominantly a celebration of Irish heritage and culture, but one of the most retold myths about Saint Patrick says he was responsible for “driving the snakes out of Ireland.”

Well, if Saint Patrick can drive the snakes out of Ireland, driving the waste out of businesses should be easy, shouldn’t it? Okay okay. We know the whole snake story isn’t true – but eliminating waste when it comes to business waste management really is an attainable goal. Much more attainable (and much safer) than snake extermination.

Just like families everywhere look at their heritage in a different way on this particular day, EWS affiliates everywhere earn an amazing living helping businesses across the country save thousands every month – just by looking at waste in a slightly different way and seeing opportunity where before there was only trash.

For example, how do you typically think about a plastic bottle? It’s likely that you think about it as trash and nothing more. Now multiply that plastic bottle times 100 or even 1000 to account for the sheer amount of plastic some businesses (in just about every industry) go through. Thought about on a larger scale, it’s particularly dangerous to still view that plastic bottle as nothing more than trash, because it’s much more. It’s energy, it’s raw material, it is an opportunity waiting to be taken advantage of. So why write it off as waste?

Most of all, it can be used to make a difference and a profit all at once. So when you’re taking a closer look at your heritage – why not use it as a reminder to take a closer look at everything, and see what you can do with better business recycling as well.

When all the raking is done, the leaves are off the lawn and the trees are as bare as skeletons standing in the yard, the thought always seems to dawn that it won’t be long before snow falls and covers it all anyways. Sure, everyone wishes for a white Christmas, but the soggy stuff that delivers a beautiful snowy morning can tend to get annoying. You shovel it, you plow it, you snow blow it, but it always seems to find a way to accumulate while you’re left holding the shovel wondering how much longer it will all last.
